After a break last year due to lockdown, Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland 2021 launched on 19 November.
Attractions include an ice kingdom, 70s disco bar, giant ferris wheel and 200 rides. You’ll also find two circuses, a real ice slide, live music and plenty of sparkly lights. For refreshment there’s the usual mulled wine, hot chocolate, bratwurst and Bavarian beer plus numerous street food options. The event runs until 3 January 2022.
From humble beginnings as an open-air market, Winter Wonderland has been creating its festive magic in Hyde Park for 15 years, during which it has grown into the icy extravaganza you’ll find today.
There are some changes to reflect current times. The event has reduced capacity and staggered entry, aimed at limiting visitor numbers. This means you must book in advance this year and, for the first time, entry fees apply - unless you pre-book £20 worth of attractions.
Winter Wonderland 2021 highlights include:
- Circus town - the UK’s largest big top hosts performances from Zippo’s Christmas Circus and adrenaline-fuelled Cirque Berserk.
- Arctic circle - 500 tonnes of ice have been used to create a kingdom of sculptures - plus there’s the chance to have a go yourself in ice carving workshops.
- Street food village - indulge in winter’s best comfort food - macaroni cheese, firewood pizza, truffle fries and much more.
- Bavarian village - cosy up in cute chalets, while you enjoy live music, DJs and sing-a-longs sessions.
- Christmas markets - shop till you drop at 100 traditional wooden chalets with unique gifts, decorations and culinary delights.
- Dancing on ice - skate around the bandstand at the UK’s largest outdoor rink, under a canopy of twinkly lights.
