It is all too easy to be consumed by the doom and gloom of the current political climate but, instead, it is time to celebrate the good news! Despite on-going and seemingly endless political disputes in Westminster, the lettings market is proving to be remarkably resilient, I’m pleased to report that we have had a successful summer. Quite incredibly the rental market has managed to weather the recent storms and still be in a positive place. We are very encouraged by this activity and although the political turmoil is not ideal in creating confidence for businesses looking to relocate staff to London, there are still people moving.

Since my last Market Comment we have been busy with enquiries from relocation agents and from private corporate individuals. As a result of the active summer market, stock levels have dropped significantly in all sectors and there is now a real shortage of properties available to let. At Plaza we still have a good number of quality applicants looking to rent so please do get in touch if we can help market your property.

Looking ahead, typically the autumn market is not as busy for most Landlords. The exception being the late-coming international students, rushing to find properties prior to their start of term in October. We expect the coming months to quieten down in the lead up to Christmas. It is therefore essential that those properties coming available towards the end of autumn are priced correctly and competitively as well as looking their best to attract the good quality tenants. We may not have the economic and political stability that we all yearn for but one thing is for sure, the lettings market has proven its resilience over the past 3 years and I have no doubt it will continue to do so whatever the outcome on October 31st
